The Client:
Residential and Commercial Scheme
Budget
£600k
The Job:
Conversion of two cottages into a single adaptable home with a smallholding
What We Did:
Our in-house designers created a completely futureproofed adaptable home that will enable the owners to live in the house for many years to come whilst maintaining the external fabric of the original premises.
This included bathrooms with full turning circles for future wheelchair users and widened doorways and options for a height-adjustable kitchen. Design has not been compromised, with a welcoming family feeling and personal touches incorporated around the home to suit the client’s brief.
The site sits on 7 acres of agricultural land which has been returned to function as a fully operational smallholding.

Challenges:
The two cottages on this project had been unoccupied for some time and had not had any significant structural works since the 1970s.
Given its rural location, the overall design of the new single family home needed to be sympathetic to its rural location whilst being comprehensively renovated. Extensive consultation was needed around planning matters, ecological issues and structural problems in an old building.
