It’s very easy to become so close to a project that you can’t see the wood for the trees and sometimes, this can be the same when growing a business. That’s why we’ve always found it so useful to review our company’s statements periodically and check that they still fit what we do. At our recent Annual Business Review, it was the turn of our Purpose Statement to come under scrutiny …

You’ll start to see our new Purpose Statement, “We create places and we maintain spaces” appearing in our communications; we’ve chosen this as a better reflection of the way we work currently and why we do what we do. Of course, it’s not just about having a statement, we need to make sure that it impacts what we do, so here are our reasons for using a Purpose Statement:

• It defines the core reason the company exists beyond making money.
• It acts as a guiding principle for decision-making, culture, and long-term strategy.
• It serves as the foundation for shaping the company’s strategic direction and planning how an organisation moves forward, ensuring that all major initiatives and goals stay aligned with this central purpose.
• Our purpose statement sits at the header of our Board agenda and minutes – everything we do and plan to do, comes back to this
