Transforming a 20-year-old control room into a modern broadcast workspace

PCR 6, London

Modern Control Room Design for ITN's London Studios.

The team at ITN commissioned East On to transform a 20-year-old space at their London studios into a functional control room fit for the 21st century. Head of Design Fernanda Scholz created the design shown here in a set of precision CGIs and worked alongside dB Broadcast and the ITN Engineering team to deliver this new workspace.

There were multiple challenges to overcome, given that the space had not been reviewed for so many years, including poor lighting and legacy IT issues; the décor itself no longer lent itself to current workplace expectations. Within 5 weeks, this area was transformed with acoustic panelling and a resilient power system alongside a sleek interior upgrade where small touches such as foldaway seating made the most of the space and gave a nod to a design theme the East On team has introduced to this iconic Foster+ Parters building in London’s Grays Inn Road.
